Foto Friday: Official 50th B’day Photo Shoot! #BoomerBabe!

Here are a few images from my recent 50th Birthday Photo Shoot! I LOVE working with  Billy Brown, my favorite photographer, who just happens to be my husband! We first met 30 years ago when I walked in the back door of his photography studio and we have been making pictures, and everything else, together ever since. However, there were about fifteen to twenty years, the years of raising children that I didn’t feel like having my picture made. But, now that I am an Empty Nester, we are back and having so much fun creating fun photos again!

I will say it isn’t as easy as it used to be! I forgot how much strength and stamina it takes-I couldn’t move for the next two days afterwards!

Anyway, I feel like making a photograph is the same as performing in a show. Every photo is a mini show. I hope it entertains you! I’ll be adding photos every friday.

Thanks to everyone who follows!~Sunny:) xo

“High in Heels ~ I’m Tripping!” #FreeGift: Oxygen Mask

In anticipation of my big birthday coming up, I’m taking a walk down memory lane on a sole searching journey through my first 50 years. I am reminded of just how important a role my shoes have played in my self-development over the years. In fact….

I love shoes, I always have. And, I really love stilettos. Thankfully, my husband does, too-on ME! Very early in our marriage, in order to convince him to support my shoe habit, I knew that I would need for him  to have a shoe fetish. A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. The pair I wore the other night, though, was almost too much for him for so little on me. But, I honestly think it was the sticker shock that left him gasping for air. I had to remind him that the higher the heel- the higher the price, and I couldn’t decide if the Oxygen Mask that came as the “FREE GIFT” was for me to use when I wore them, or for him when he found out how much they cost. Either way, we were both fighting over it, and I really do feel that when a pair of shoes cost that much they should throw in an extra mask.

I have a feeling I’m going to be needing that mask more than ever as the big day arrives!

Herb Alpert “Whipped Cream” Album Cover

Cover-Whipped-Cream-and-Other-Delights

I grew up listening to all the classic swinging tunes my dad loaded up on his console stereo and played continuously through our house. I loved all that music, and still, it is my favorite and almost exclusively in my playlist rotations, even now. I remember finding this album cover of Herb Alpert’s “Whipped Cream” album wedged in with the hundred’s of other albums he had in his collection. I felt like I was looking at something meant just for grown-ups. I also clearly remembering feeling like I wanted to be that girl! Only as an adult did I come to realize that it was a famous cover and considered one of the top album covers of all time. I really love the music, too! ~Enjoy!~Sunny:) xo

Spring Break Boomer Babe!

I was out running some errands yesterday and I couldn’t understand why it was so crowded everywhere I went. There was lots of traffic on the roads, the restaurant had a line out the door where I stopped to grab lunch, and the Target was packed. Then I noticed that kids were everywhere and it dawned on me that it was Spring Break.

This is the first time in about 21 years that I am not living on the school calendar. As you may know, this is my first year as an Empty Nester and it has taken some getting used to. Both of my kids are in college on the other side of the country, at different schools, and they have different Spring Breaks, and instead of coming home, they are going on trips with friends. When I realized it was our local Spring Break, I started feeling sad, remembering all the fun family trips we have taken over the years and how much I miss doing that.

I know there are many other family trips and adventures in our future, but for a while it will be more difficult to find a time that works for everybody’s schedules. Our family is going through that awkward stage of the college years, with our children coming home to “visit”- not “living” here anymore, creating their new lives, etc. And, in truth, that’s what I am doing, too. I am creating my new life. And I realized that I can go on Spring Break anytime I want to!

It has literally taken me this long to get it into my mind that I am no longer confined to the 9-5 Mon-Sun rules of the week. Since I freelance I have always enjoyed great flexibility, but as soon as it got close to three o’clock I was always on Mom duty-and all you parents out there know that I am talking about my second job, when I kicked off my heels and changed into a pair of running shoes. But that all changed this year.

My life is new and different this year since becoming an Empty Nester, and so am I. I started this blog, I have many different projects in the works, including my first book. I love making people laugh, writing and performing, as part of the comedy variety group “Feminine Hyjinx”, I am working on my next solo show, too, and many other projects I am excited to share with you as they come along. I hope you will continue to join me, and cheer me on- or cheer me up, as I continue to reinvent myself!

I have no intention of slipping comfortably into life like a pair of worn out slippers. This is one “Boomer Babe” that plans on kicking the bucket in a fabulous pair of stilettos!

I think I hear the beach calling me, now~Cheers! to Spring Break without the kids!
